Patient education

Osteopathy and manual therapy are special forms of examination and treatment of painful and symptom-free disorders of muscle, joint, nerve and organ functions. With the help of osteopathy and manual therapy, both acute and chronic complaints can be treated. Not only the clinical picture or symptoms themselves are treated, but the person as a whole.

The aim of therapy is always to restore and strengthen the balance of body functions, as well as to restore muscle and joint functions and to relieve pain. Before each treatment, the patient undergoes a detailed physical examination and the therapy plan is drawn up based on the findings and diagnosis. Assessment and therapy flow seamlessly into one another during the sessions. Osteopathic
treatment consists largely of structural manual techniques.

Contraindications:

If acute, please list these points in the anamnesis questionnaire under “Other”. Supportive therapy is usually possible.

  • Acute inflammatory reactions in the joints, acute inflammatory attacks in chronic diseases such as inflammatory rheumatism
  • Febrile illnesses
  • Fractures
  • Tumors
  • Osteoporosis and metabolic osteopathy with a tendency to pathological fractures
  • Thromboses, aneurysms and spontaneous hematoma formation
  • Tuberculosis
  • Implanted foreign bodies (pacemaker, coil etc.)
  • Prolonged corticoid treatment
  • Severe neurological disorders
  • Acute cervical / lumbar disc herniation with & without radicular symptoms
  • Fresh soft tissue injuries to the cervical spine (4-8 weeks after accident)

Risks of treatment - short-term transient treatment reactions may include:

  • Short-term worsening of symptoms or short-term acute symptoms
  • Fatigue, dizziness, headache, fever, circulatory symptoms
  • Pain similar to muscle soreness
  • Sleep disorders
  • Changes in body secretions and/or the menstrual cycle

Risks of Spinal Treatment:

  • Occasionally slight discomfort in the vertebral joints and skin
  • In rare cases (with a probability of 1:400,000 to 1:2,000,000) it can happen if the appropriate conditions are met. Before each treatment, the patient undergoes a detailed physical examination and the therapy plan is drawn up based on the findings and diagnosis. Assessment and therapy flow seamlessly into one another during the sessions. Osteopathic treatment consists largely of structural manual techniques. This can lead to a cerebral hemorrhage, a stroke, severe neurological deficits, damage to the spinal cord or the cervical spinal artery (vertebral artery dissection).

Not every functional disorder requires osteopathic treatment. Such disorders can also be treated using other treatment methods (physical therapy, physical therapy, medication, etc.) or in combination with osteopathy.
